Surrendering in Valorant Will Soon Become an Option

Have you played a Valorant match where you’re behind 10 rounds and there is little to no chance of a comeback? Are you playing with a man down after one teammate disconnects or goes AFK?

Unsavoury matches like these happen occasionally in the course of our experience and thankfully, the developers of Valorant understand its players’ predicament.

According to the inaugural episode of Riot’s Ask Valorant blog post series, the upcoming Patch 1.02 will allow players to initiate surrender before a match ends. No clue has been given as to how this will be implemented, but it’s probable that one player has to press a surrender button before other teammates vote to surrender.

There is also no mention of whether surrendering will affect a player’s MMR, especially when one of their teammates abandoned the game. But the specifics of this new feature will be made clear once the 1.02 patch notes drops.

There is also no mention of when the new patch will come online but all indications point towards this week.

And, according to game director Joe Ziegler, the new patch will also bring it with it the long-awaited ranked system, which will allow players to match up in a more competitive setting.

The surrender feature is useful in saving players the agony of having to go through the ordeal of an extremely one-sided match. By surrendering early, players can put their previous match behind them and hop on to the next one immediately.
